＊aloneは名詞の直後において「～だけで」という意味を添える形容詞。

(ex) She alone makes the movie worth seeing.：彼女だけがその映画を見る価値のあるものにしている。

・spice up…add beauty or coolness to：～を美しく[かっこよく]見せる

・outfit…a set of clothing, often with accessories：一揃いの服装

キャシーは子どもの頃肺炎にかかったことがあると言っていた。

Cathy said she had pneumonia when she was a child.

＊キャシーが肺炎にかかったのは、キャシーが言った時点より過去の事柄(大過去)なのでshe had had pneumoniaとするのが正式だが、単に過去形でも問題ない。

昨日のひょうで家の窓ガラスが粉々に割れてしまった。

The hail yesterday smashed my house windows.

I have an early shift tomorrow, so I have to set the alarm for 5:30.

＊set the alarm at 5:30でも同じ意味になる。これはset the alarm to go off at 5:30を省略したものだと考えればよい。ただし、「前日の夕方5時30分にアラームかける」とも解釈されうる(もっともそんな解釈はされないだろうが)。この曖昧さを回避するためにset the alarm for 5:30とする。これはset the alarm for 5:30 wakeupが省略されたもの。
